About This Plant

Blooming later than other Baptisia species, this slow growing plant develops a shrubby appearance and is host to at least 20 butterfly and moth species. Its deep roots make this plant drought resistant once established and good for erosion control. It gets one of its common names "rattleweed", from the rattling noise made by its seeds when its ripe seedpods are shaken.
