A lovely cut or dried flower, like other liatris species, it blooms from the top to the bottom and is a hardy perennial. It's great for home landscapes, and it will even do well in clay soils. Before going to seed, it produces less showy, globular pink flowers. The plant itself is somewhat hairy with pretty, fern-like leaves. If it becomes naturalized, it can spread via rhizome and form an interesting ground cover. It does not tolerate wet winter conditions and prefers cooler summer climates.
