About This Plant

This is a great plant for home landscapes and wildlife. An iconic, warm season grass, it serves as a host plant for several species of butterflies and moths, and other insects and birds will eat its leaves or seed. Queen bumblebees will overwinter at the base of it. It has a blue-green color in the summer, and then it is shades of copper and red after the frost, adding striking winter interest to landscapes.
