Pennsylvania Sedge is a native sedge often found growing in dry woodland areas in the wild. It is commonly found growing close to oak trees, which is why another common name for it is Oak Sedge. It tolerates a wide range of conditions, including full shade will moist soils, but will grow best in well draining, drier soils with part sun.
Many people seek Pennsylvania Sedge as a lawn replacement plant, however it is difficult to germinate large areas from seed, and is slow to spread. It spreads more readily through division over many years.
