A fantastic species to plant en masse in rock gardens or along borders, showy evening primrose has fragrant, bowl-shaped, light pink flowers with dark pink veining that open in the evening and remain open until late morning. It will spread by rhizomes and seeds, and may become aggressive in small landscapes, but it makes a nice groundcover. It is drought-tolerant, and its narrow leaves turn a nice burgundy in the autumn. Birds will eat its seed.
