About This Plant

The various shades of pink plus the tubular flowers make this a true hummingbird—and butterfly—magnet, and it spreads via rhizomes and self-seeding. Purplish spots and/or streaks along the main stem are a key identifying characteristic of this phlox. Deer, rabbits, and other mammals will eat it, so fence it or plant it among unsavory plants to protect it. Sometimes confused for the non-native "Dame's rocket," the flowers of phlox have five petals, whereas Dame's rocket has four.
