About This Plant

As an oak, this tree is a power plant in that it supports over 500 species of butterflies and moths. Its acorns provide critical mast for birds and mammals, too. It produces a sweet acorn, which can be eaten if roasted. This species, which is sometimes called Yellow Chestnut Oak, prefers alkaline, well drained soils.
