This is an excellent plant for rain gardens and wetlands. Individual plants are short-lived, but they readily reseed, and the seeds are an important food source for many birds and small mammals. Pollinators and even hummingbirds enjoy the small, blue/purple flowers that open along slender finger-like stalks.
Blue Vervain has been used for many years as a medicial herb for many ailments including fever, depression and even jaundice. However, its been found to interfere with blood pressure, some medications, and cause gastrointestinal issues.
