Delicate, fringed, white cup-like blossoms line the stem of this plant, which have a single pair of leaves halfway up the stem. Seeds look like caviar in a green cup and are dispersed when rain hits the cup. The plant will spread slowly via rhizome, making it ideal for home landscapes.
The genus name Mitella means “little miter,” because the shape of the mature seed capsules resembles a miter, a headdress worn by bishops in certain traditional Christian sects.
