About This Plant

Spicebush is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers are on separate plants, so a male and female plant are needed to ensure pollination. Yellow-green flowers appear along the branches before leaf out. Male flowers are larger and showier than female flowers. Red drupes (fruits) appear on female plants in late summer/early fall. The green leaves have a spicy fragrance when crushed.
