Royal fern is a moisture loving plant that occurs in forests, floodplains and wetlands in the wild. It prefers a shaded environment and has deep green fronds that change to a golden-brown color in the fall.
The species name “spectabilis” means “spectacular” in Latin and refers to the plant’s showy inner fronds. | Previously known as Osmunda regalis var. spectabilis.
