An adaptable plant, this spiderwort can grow in medium-wet to dry soils. Its blue blooms open in the morning sun, close in the mid-day heat, and only last for a day. The plant typically flowers for over a month in early summer. Bumblebees are a common pollinator. Deer, rabbits, and even box turtles might nibble the foliage.
Due to its adaptability and tolerance for sand, clay and other soil types, Ohio spiderwort can often be found growing along road sites or other dry, disturbed areas.
