About This Plant
A member of the Carrot family, zizia is not browsed by deer and gets yellow umbel flowers that pollinators love. Short-tongued bees favor it, and it is a host plant for several butterflies. It's easy to grow, and while individual plants are short-lived, the plants self-seed and can persist year after year. It prefers soils that are high in organic matter and well-drained but will tolerate a variety of conditions.

Plant Facts
Be careful not to confuse golden Alexanders with the similar looking, highly invasive Pastinaca sativa (wild parsnip). Wild parsnip is taller, blooms later, and can cause skin burns if touched.
