Also known as Carolina allspice, this deciduous shrub has glossy, leathery, aromatic, dark green leaves. Fragrant, dark maroon, funky-looking flowers grace this plant, which is very resistant to disease and insect problems. It will sucker, but is slow growing. All parts of the plant may be dried for use in potpourri.
