About This Plant

A member of the Cypress family, this tree is salt tolerant and makes for an excellent windbreak or privacy screen. Its reddish-brown bark exfoliates, adding an ornamental appeal, as does its blue "berries" or cones and pyramid shape. It has separate male and female plants, and it's the female tree that produces the blue "berries," which birds will eat. The foliage is blue-green and needle-like.
