This is a clump-forming mint that spreads via rhizomes and has large, oval-shaped, aromatic leaves. Small, delicate, light pink-white flowers attract numerous pollinators in the summer. It prefers well-draining soils that are rich in organic matter but is adaptable and tolerates many different soil types.
A 2015 Penn State Extension study showed that this mint was, by far, the plant most visited by pollinators in their “Bees, Bugs, Bloom Pollinator Trial” with more than four-times the visits than the second most visited plant.
